The sea of sauvignon

By GREG NINNESS Sunday Star Times, 20 April 2008

A huge grape harvest in Marlborough has overwhelmed local wineries and is likely to result in falling prices for sauvignon blanc, which could send some smaller producers to the wall.

This year's Marlborough harvest appears to be around 30% up on last year's record 121,000 tonnes and when the grapes from new vineyards coming on stream for the first time are included, the total harvest is likely to be around 160,000 tonnes.
